HULS Gallery presents an event of Arita ware. Arita which is situated in Saga Prefecture, Japan has over 400 years of history in producing porcelain ware. Their products are acknowledged as being well-designed and made using highly skilled techniques. They continue to produce a wide range of tableware in the traditional Sometsuke style, as well as creating modern and innovative designs.

On 5 and 6 October, an artisan from Riso Porcelain will be demonstrating a hand-painting technique called “Sometsuke”, which is drawing on unglazed vessel by using a brush.
You can observe up close the skilfulness and precise techniques of the artisan. This is a great chance to see the professional work process of making Japanese crafts.
