Art Central Hong Kong 2026

We are pleased to announce that HULS Gallery will participate in Art Central, Asia’s leading
international art fair in Hong Kong.

Message from the founder
HULS Gallery presents not “craft” but kogei, works shaped by the spirit of place and the aesthetic
sensibility of the people who live there. Even when created by a single artist, each piece quietly
carries something inherited from others before them. In today’s world, surrounded by abundance
yet holding a sense of emptiness, what meaning and value should such objects embody?
Through our selected works, we invite visitors to contemplate the role of kogei in contemporary
society and the presence it can restore to our lives.

Presentation Highlights:
For Art Central Hong Kong 2026, we present the works of two kogei artists: Q Tani, a ceramic
artist exploring the deep heritage of Old Shigaraki, and Takeyoshi Mitsui, a glass artist who forms
distinctive silhouettes through glassblowing. Clay and glass. Though their materials differ, their
works share a similar sense of breath and presence, each quietly enhancing the beauty of the
other.

Q Tani
Born in 1977, a ceramic artist living in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Graduated from the
sculpture course at Seian University of Art and Design.

Takeyoshi Mitsui
Born in 1987, a glass artist based in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. Master of Crafts, Graduate
School of Art, Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts.
