Mr. Takao Togashi is a lacquer artist and the third generation head of a lacquerware studio “Nushi Ichitomi” located in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture. Drawing inspiration from western designs, he is dedicated to creating works that fully showcases the potential of lacquer. He achieves them by applying various traditional techniques such as Aizu Tamamushi-nuri, which is reminiscent of the sheen of the tamamushi (Jewel Beetle), as well as shibuichi-nuri and tetsusabi-nuri techniques that resembles a metallic finish.
