Mr. Hideki Yamamoto was born in 1965 in Imari, Saga Prefecture. He studied Ceramic at the Arita Tehnical Senior High School and later trained at his family kiln Hojugama. He also learned from Mr. Shiro Banura. He opened his own Kiln in Takeo, Saga Prefecture in 1995. Mr. Yamamoto uses traditional decorative techniques such as mishima, applying white slip, brush strokes that give off a rustic look, as well as inlaying and shinogi (carved ridgelines) and sometimes glass glaze for his works. He created kuro-yu (black glaze) which will develop a metal-like textured surface upon firing. His works manifest “beauty of subtraction”.
