Mr. Hideki Yanashita, born in Tokyo in 1967, graduated from Kuwasawa Design School in 1989. Fascinated with the pottery from the Momoyama period (1573-1603), he aspired to become a ceramic artist. After his apprenticeship in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, he built his own ana-gama “cave” kiln and established the Jinden kiln in Iga, Mie Prefecture. He is mentored by Master Sadamitsu Sugimoto. Mr. Yanashita works in a diverse range of styles including Raku, Yakishime, Ido, and Oribe, using natural materials to embody the beauty of wabi-sabi in his works.
