Region: Bizen, Okayama Prefecture
Mr. Hitoshi Morimoto was born in 1976 in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture. After studying sculpture at Tokyo Zokei University, he studied Mino pottery under Mr. Seiya Toyoba in Gifu Prefecture. He started making Bizen ware at his family kiln when he returned to Bizen in 2003. Mr. Morimoto’s works are inspired by daily life, such as the changing seasons, flora and fauna around the atelier, and beautiful shadows cast throughout the day. He mainly produces Bizen ware, as well as white, unglazed Shirahana ware fired with a kerosene kiln. He also produces black glaze, ash glaze, Kiseto and Kohiki wares.
