Artists

Mr. Katsunori Sawa was born in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture in 1980. After graduating from Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute in 2002, he studied under renown potter Mr. Goro Suzuki. He became an independent ceramic artist in 2005. He uses a wood-fired kiln for his creations, and his works are in the style of Oribe and Shigaraki among others. Mr. Sawa’s Oribe works embody his playful and free creative spirit. His Shigaraki vessel with rich, expressive character, made possible by the unpredictable yohen effect from rapid cooling upon firing, is interesting no matter which angle you view it from.
