Mr. Makoto Yamaguchi was born in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture in 1978 as the 6th generation of the family pottery “Nishiyama” Kiln. After his architectural course at a vocational school, he chose pottery for his career and studied pottery styles and techniques from the Edo period at Kasen Touen (Kasen Pottery Studio). In 2004, when Mr. Yamaguchi became an independent ceramic artist. He researched on Oribe glazes, and named his unique style of multiple Oribe glazes and fusion of traditional patterns “Rinpa Oribe”. The spectacular colors and textures look like stunning, magnificent landscapes.
