Mr. Shinji Terauchi was born in 1962 in Arita, Saga Prefecture. He graduated from Musashino Art University in 1985. In 1988, he joined the family business Riso Porcelain, Ltd., and started to research on reproduction of Old Imari porcelain. He felt that old Imari ware brought him to feel the warmth of human hands. He also experimented with other types of clays including Shigaraki, Karatsu, and Izumiyama porcelain stone. He received first prize of the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Prize at the 112th Kyushu-Yamaguchi Ceramic Exhibition in 2015, and continued to receive the award yearly.
