Mr. Takao Tahara was born in 1982 in Nagato and grew up in one of the Fukawa kilns of Hagi ware. He studied Sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts and his graduation work was awarded the Sugawara prize in 2005. After receiving his Master’s degree, he trained under ceramic artist Mr. Seiya Toyoba in Mino and his father, Mr. Tohbe Tahara. Besides exhibiting his works and receiving awards in Japan, his works were also exhibited in South Korea and Paris. With his background in Hagi ware for tea ceremony, Mr. Tahara uses daidotsuchi clay produced in Daido, Yamaguchi Prefecture while he pursues his new way of glazing expressions for a fresh and supple impression.
