Mr. Toshinori Munakata was born in 1985 in Aizu-Misato-machi. After studying in Kyoto and trained in Izumo, he apprenticed under his father and grandfather. His work were exhibited in Japan as well as overseas (Italy, United States, and China). He won the Silver Prize, “The Second China Ceramic Tea-set Products & Design Competition” in Jingdezhen, China (2018) and the Gold Prize for The ceramic tea set 2020 annual award,China. Mr. Munakata combines local Matoba clay used for generations with natural ash glaze, employing techniques of kake-wake (multiple glazes applied separately) and kasane-gake (different glazes applied in layers) to express the seasons and nature of Aizu.
