Toshinori Munakata, the 9th generation of the Munakata kiln in Aizu, Fukushima Prefecture, draws inspiration from the breathaking nature of his homeland. He creates pottery using locally sourced clays and plant ash glazes, skillfully capturing mesmerizing color gradations that reflects the vibrancy of the natural world.

During his apprenticeship under both his grandfather and father, Munakata acquired essential pottery-making techniques, including wheel throwing, glazing, and firing. He aims to produce a distinctive style, with elegant forms and beautiful color gradations that are truly his own.
